Online Therapy in Ohio

You don't have to drive across town — or rearrange your whole week — to get real help.

Stillwaters offers online therapy to people throughout Ohio, delivered by licensed psychotherapists from the quiet of your own home, office, or wherever you feel most yourself. In 2026, most of the people we work with choose to meet this way (over 85%), and the care is every bit as personal, confidential, and effective as sitting in our office.

Whether you're in the Dayton area, Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, or a small town in between, if you're physically located in Ohio, we can work together.

Is online therapy actually as good as in person?

For most concerns, yes. A large body of research has found that therapy delivered over secure video is comparably effective to in-person care for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other common struggles. What makes therapy work is the relationship and the methods — and both translate fully to a screen. What online therapy adds is access: no commute, no waiting room, easier scheduling around work and family, and the comfort of doing difficult work in a space that already feels safe to you.

There are times when in-person care is the better fit, and we'll always be honest with you about that. For clients who prefer to meet face-to-face, our office in Florence, Kentucky is open as well.

What we help with

Online sessions in Ohio are currently with Daniel Bush, LPCC-S, whose specialties include:

  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Anxiety and anger
  • Depression
  • Marriage, premarital, and couples counseling
  • Attachment and recurring relationship patterns
  • Personality disorders
  • Life transitions and stress
  • Faith and spiritual struggles (spiritual direction)

Daniel works with both individuals and couples. His approach blends psychodynamic depth work — understanding the roots of a struggle — with practical tools for examining the rigid, self-defeating beliefs that keep us stuck and replacing them with healthier, more flexible ones (an approach known as Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, or REBT). For couples he draws on Emotionally Focused and Relational Life Therapy, and he also offers EMDR and Havening.

Our approach

At the heart of our practice is psychodynamic psychotherapy — careful, exploratory work that gets at the roots of a struggle rather than only managing its symptoms. We pair that depth with methods chosen for strong research support, including EMDR, Emotionally Focused and Relational Life Therapy for couples, and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) — a practical approach to examining the rigid, self-defeating beliefs that keep us stuck and replacing them with healthier, more flexible ones. We match the method to what you're facing.

We also offer Havening Techniques, a gentle, neuroscience-based approach to releasing the emotional charge of painful memories — Daniel Bush is a Certified Havening Practitioner. And for clients who want it, we offer thoughtfully faith-integrated counseling that honors your beliefs without ever being preachy. If that's not what you're looking for, that's completely welcome too.

How it works

Getting started is simple. After you reach out, we'll set up a brief consultation to make sure we're a good fit. Sessions happen over a secure, private, HIPAA-conscious video platform — no special equipment needed, just a phone, tablet, or computer and a quiet spot. We'll send you a link before each session; you click it, and we begin.

Insurance & payment

We currently accept select insurance plans for individual therapy. Couples therapy is self-pay only and is not billed to insurance. You can check your coverage on our Find Your Coverage page, or just ask us — we're happy to walk you through it.

A few common questions

Who can you see for online therapy?
Anyone physically located in Ohio at the time of session (and Kentucky, for Daniel). You don't need to live near either office.

Is it private?
Yes. Sessions are held over a secure, HIPAA-conscious platform, and your privacy is protected the same way it would be in our office.

Can I switch between online and in-person?
Absolutely. Many clients do a mix — mostly online, with the option to come into our Florence, KY office when it suits them.
